A child’s first pet is often a small creature, such as a rabbit, gerbil,
hamster, rat or turtle. These animals are often a child’s first best friend and
they provide love, laughter and companionship. Unfortunately, these animals have
a tragically short lifespan and their deaths can also occur suddenly and
unexpectedly. Therefore, the passing of a small animal can be extremely
traumatic not only for children, but also for adults.
Owners of all ages will know that despite their size, small creatures are
just as much part of the family as larger pets. Small animals are capable of
offering just as much affection to their owners and are valued friends.
Therefore, the death of a small pet is equally upsetting and distressing as the
loss of a larger animal.
Animals of all shapes and sizes are an important part of our lives and it is
helpful to acknowledge this fact in life as well as in death. |
